Updates of SPDG Activities
- 5 Hubs:
- Early Childhood: Professional development has been focused on building capacity to address SPP indicators 6, 7 and 12 in Part B and indicator 8 in Part C. In addition, this Hub has been creating an environment “Using Technology for Professional Development, Technical Assistance, and Strategic Communication” with Larry Edelman on June 10-11. The learning objective of this event is to help SPDG partners to begin to develop a better understanding of the different technologies that can be used to support continued communication and community building.
- Parent Leadership: This Hub is working on a new parent leadership toolkit and training modules that will focus on building skills and knowledge for parents and youth to have more meaningful participation in decision making roles on local, regional and state entities. This Hub also continues to produce and send a PL Hub Weekly E-Newsletter to statewide yahoo groups, with the SPDG PL Hub website link and the e-newsletter contents embedded in the email for convenient reference. The PL Hub is also being mentored by the PD Hub on ways to apply research-based professional development methods to parent leadership development efforts and continues to provide a parent liaison to all SPDG Hubs meetings as well as support parents of children 0-6 to attend their 1st PD experience.
- Transition: Professional development is focused on indicator 13 of Part B. (Linda presented during the last half of the meeting)
- WPDM/PD: Continues to be the training Hub of the Wisconsin Personnel Development Model. While the rest of the Hubs focus on content…this Hub focuses on the process of effective PD
- Institutes of Higher Education (IHE): This Hub will now be focusing on designing an IHE mini-grant initiative. The priority for this initiative will be on recruitment of HQT in the area of special education and re-alignment of pre-service programs to meet the skills and knowledge required to improve outcomes for students with disabilities birth-26.
Wisconsin Personnel Development Model (WPDM)
- Presented a “readers digest” visual of the WPDM that has been designed in a more linear fashion.
- Linda Maitrejean did a presentation on how the Transition Hub used the WPDM to deliver personnel development opportunities focusing on Indicator #13 which is Secondary Transition with/IEP goals. Linda did a great job showing how using the WPDM as the delivery process made all the difference to meeting the targets and goals set for adults in these trainings.
Next Steps:
- At the request of members of the advisory committee, the WPDM/PD Hub will be presenting a program focusing on the what and how’s of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and how PLC’s support the work of the WPDM.
