Parent Leadership Hub Weekly E-Newsletter for July 23,2009

The attached "Parent Leadership Hub" Weekly Email Update is sent to you from WSPEI and WI FACETS.   The Parent Leadership Hub supports parents/family members, educators and other community partners to build capacity regarding meaningful family involvement.   The Hub serves three primary purposes:
(1) To support parents of children with disabilities between birth and 26 years of age to participate as partners in the professional development activities of each of the other Statewide Initiatives as they design, deliver and support professional development experiences; and
(2) To facilitate opportunities for parents/family members to build leadership skills; and
(3)  To provide Content Focused technical assistance concerning family involvement.

Parent/Personnel Development Opportunities

  1. Out to Lunch Open House – Kenosha Adult Day Services
    Adults with disabilities, guardians, family members, case managers, social workers, and agency staff are encouraged to come and see what the Adult Day Services program is all about. Open House held every Wednesday from June 17th—August 26th 12:00-1:00pm Kenosha YMCA—Callahan Family Branch in the Community Room. Please enter on the north side of building entrance (look for red balloons!) 7101- 53rd Street, Kenosha 53144. Stop by with your bag lunch and spend your lunch hour with them. Afterwards tour the facility plus have an opportunity to participate in a skill building activity. RSVP’s would be greatly appreciated. Family Involvement Resources

  1. Transition Resource in Spanish
    The Transition to Adult Care Assessment & Action Plan tool developed at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin has been translated into Spanish. It is located in the Family Resource section of the CHW Internet page on transition: www.chw.org/transition.
  2. News Release on Wisconsin Library Internet Access
    State Superintendent Tony Evers announced that nearly all Wisconsin residents can now access free wireless Internet service at their local public library, the result in part of strategic leveraging of federal money by the Department of Public Instruction. The department has worked with libraries for many years to enhance Internet access because of its usefulness to the public, especially in challenging economic times.
