In order to create an environment that supports optimal learning
opportunities for every young child in Wisconsin, CESA # 2 has been
focusing, for the past several years, on ways to expand quality
service options for young children with disabilities. Towards that
end, school districts have been supported to form collaborative
relationships with community partners who also have investments
in outcomes for young children. Districts have been encouraged to
form local early childhood councils for networking and collaborative
planning, to develop community practices to enhance the success
of all young children and to create policies that facilitate smooth
transitions from one service option to another for young children
with disabilities. Current research supports the fact that quality
environments and learning experiences for all children are fundamental
to creating better outcomes for young children with disabilities.
In addition, it is apparent that no one program or service alone
is able to adequately provide all that is needed to develop and
maintain such environments. It is with this background of experience
and philosophy that CESA # 2 seeks to share and expand the learning
from previous collaborative efforts through the activities of the
SIG grant. |
